History was being made when a dozen #Tesla Model S electric sedans were the first group of vehicles to cross the all new eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge in a ceremony a day before the new span officially opened to the public on September 3rd. The last time this bridge had such a large occasion for celebration was when it first opened 76 years ago on Nov. 12, 1936. Since its opening, the Bay Bridge continues to serve as a vital part of California’s Bay Area economy allowing safe transport of over 280,000 cars on average every day.
It is appropriate and fitting to have Tesla Motors and their Model S to be among the first cars to crossthe new eastern span. Both born in times of economic hardship and carrying their fair share of funding controversies that both have overcome (The Bay Bridge being over budget and delayed and Tesla Motors receiving government funds that they ultimately paid off) the new Eastern Span of the Bay Bridge and the Tesla Model S are products of successful innovations in California.
Congratulations to Tesla Motors and the greater Bay Area on this week’s bridge opening and crossing. Designed to last over 150 years and withstand the next big earthquake with proper maintenance, the residents of the Bay Area can finally resume their normal commute and Tesla can be apart of history.
Although T3 was unable to attend the festivities on Monday, we’ll be making repeated trips to the Bay Bridge in the future. This new landmark, among many others including the Golden Gate Bridge is a featured sight on several of our tours, in addition to being a throughfare for our services including airport transfers.
