The San Francisco 49-Mile Scenic Drive Experience is a 6-hour showcase of many of San Francisco’s most famous attractions and historic landmarks. Established on September 14, 1938 as a promotion for the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition, it features views of the then-newly-built Golden Gate Bridge (opened May 1937) and the Bay Bridge (opened November 1936), terminating at the fairgrounds on Treasure Island.

While most of this itinerary’s sites can be viewed from your vehicle, comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended for those vantage points inaccessible by car.
